In the middle of taking these photos, I realized this was totally something Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw would wear. All I needed was big, teased hair or a big bun piled on top of my head. Unfortunately, this was the day after NYE, so I wasn't exactly thinking straight. In fact, I think my hair was still a little sticky from the champagne I'd spilled on it the night before. I guess I should have also tied up my shirt and shown a little midriff a la Carrie, but you get the idea.

These fabulous pants are the most important part of my outfit and I was so excited to find them at the Goodwill Blue Hanger outlet. I didn't think they'd fit, especially all the eating and drinking (and not working out) I've been doing, but they do! Getting back into yoga is on my new year to-do list, but I haven't done much of anything since I came down with a terrible cold Sunday evening. I'm still battling it now, but I'm hoping the worst will be over by the end of the week. This is not how I wanted to start my new year!

On a more interesting note, I thrifted a bunch of awesome stuff last week that will be going up on my Etsy store in the next few days. My best friend, Jackie, came over yesterday (even though I warned here I might be contagious) to model some of the stuff I'm going to sell. She's pretty tiny, so she made the perfect model for the amazing vintage pieces I found. I'm still not sure how this happened, but while I was steaming one of the skirts for her to model, I burnt my hand right in between my middle and ring finger. Why do these things happen to me?! Now, I'm sick with a stuffy nose and a burnt hand. Oh, what a life I lead.

At least I'm unemployed. I thought that was a bad thing, but with the way my life has been going, I'm actually glad I don't have anywhere to be. But I dare you to ask me if I feel the same way in a few weeks.

Let's Talk Hair

You might have noticed I've been wearing my hair up like this a lot recently. It's super easy, looks really pretty and if you wear it overnight, you wake up with curls! I've had quite a few people compliment me on this hairstyle here in Mexico (which is not as easy to explain in Spanish as I thought it would be), so I wanted to share the video I learned it from. It's definitely become my new favorite hairstyle and I think it would work on many different hair types and lengths. I hope you try it after watching the video!

The Day Before I Graduate

I was like a walking ad for Gap in this outfit. I felt a little guilty because it was the same day The Daily Texan article was featuring me as a thrifty fashionista. I'll admit that Gap is definitely not a very thrifty place to shop at unless there's a sale, but that happens more often than you'd think. To my defense, I bought this skirt and jacket back when I had an employee discount. Man, do I miss those days.

The only item I'm wearing that wasn't from Gap is this very pretty necklace given to me by my step-mom, Rose. She loves buying vintage jewelry and accessories at estate sales and then showing me her awesome finds. The best part is when she lets me choose something for myself. Thanks, Mama Rose :)

By the way, I'm officially done with class! Never again will I have to sit through some god-awful class about African history (yes, I took that) or deal with a crazy professor that calls themself Dracula (true story). I feel so free! Oh, except for that fact that I still have to take a final exam on December 13. I'm not sure how I'm going to convince myself to study for it especially because I'm graduating TOMORROW. Even if I completely bomb it, I'll still earn my degrees. It feels great to be (almost) done.

Lace & Dots

 

I was pleasantly surprised when I put this outfit together. I had a hard time deciding to buy this skirt because I wasn't sure what to wear with it. My step-mom, Rose, came to the rescue with a bag of goodies she picked out for me at an estate sale. She gave me three vintage polka dot blouses and five vintage scarfs. Score!

I don't normally mix patterns and fabrics like this because I never know if it works. As soon I put these two together though, I knew it was a winner.
